Artist's Comments

Been holding on to this shot for awhile, deciding how to treat it.

Would love to hear what you think it's about.

CA > San Fransisco

Curves. Dodge and Burn.

----
Edit
Some of what it's about. Caravaggio isn't just a guy on the Sapranos, he's a painter. Dead now, for a long time. He painted something called "Sick Bacchus", which is pictured here along with the proclaimation that Caravaggio is a guy on the Sapranos. I suppose the poster is a dig, a kind of pithy insult to people whose cultural memory ends where TV begins, or maybe a re-contextualization, and in a sense a peice of art in itself. Caravaggio also painted something called "The Sacrifice of Isaac" which is about the Old Testiment story where god tells Abraham to Sacrifice his son Isaac, an innocent, to God. This photo is about that painting, about what is happening both in that painting and in this photograph. About the loose of innocence at the hands of higher power. [link] And yes there is more but I will leave that step to your personal exegesis.

I think it's about that guy crossing the street. Then again, I also think he's going to get run over.

This shot is total coolness. So well executed.

I like the fact that the depth of field works well with the sun and car lights. The symmetry in the shine of the cars is nice too.

Well it took a lot of work to be the ass that I am, and I'm really damn sure that anyone can, equally easily fuck you over. -Modest Mouse-

I think it interprets change and evolution
The wonders of the past being forgotten for the dull monotony of today.
The Poster in the foreground is the obvious announcement of this, and its muted shadows are an extreme contrast to the golden sunset. The mellow sunny colors on the city street makes me think of old model T's and buggy cars, but instead I see shiney high polished gas guzzlers.
Wonderful piece Vance.
I love it.

i'll get back to you on this...

for now, i am in love with the man on the poster...his smile...and the color of the sun
they seem to compliment one another very well

thats a really nice photo, the lights captured really well. the cars look really calm under the light. i also like how the post cuts the photo up and directs the eye onto the next part.

:) I'm so glad you gave such a full answer... you did pick up on on part of it. It's fun to see that everyone who answered has grabbed at least a peice of the theme that lead to the title here. Isaac of course being the innocent son who God told Abraham to sacrifice.

I hope you are well my freind.
